Travel advices against traveling to the Solomon Islands had either been soften or defused if not yet lifted as a result of the presences of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands, the confidence of our friends who went their own way breaking the rules and visited the Solomon Islands when their mother Country advised them not to and the aggressive marketing by The Solomon Islands Tourism Industry lead by Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau and Solomon Airlines. The Australian travel advice at www.dfat.gov.au is a reliable source of information about the Solomon Islands as they lead the Regional Assistance Mission to these Islands. However we still do feel there is any threat to our tourists. Upon your arrival in the Solomon Islands, check for updates at the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau and we still recommend you register with your respective High Commissions, Embassy or Consulate Offices.
Travelling Solomon Islands 2007The Solomon Islands Tourism industry is now optimistic that the tourism industry is recovering from its domestic crisis and is aiming for an increase of its tourism arrivals. Tourism operators in the Country especially have done a great job in ensuring the visitors have confident in traveling and having their holidays in the Islands and sure enough, the tide is turning the way it should there is a slow return of visitors to our shores. Solomon Airlines, the country's national airline has leased its own aircraft providing daily flights to Brisbane Australia and two flights a week to Santo, Vanuatu, and Nadi, Fiji. Other Airlines; Air Pacific , Air Nuigini and the latest addition, Our airline see the confidence of the industry growing hence continue to fly from Honiara to Brisbane, Nadi, Port Vila and Port Moresby. Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau and Solomon Airlines are heading its media campaigns to transform the tarnished image of the Country imposed by the media over the ethnic trouble on the Islands. The support and backings of our overseas partners have been the timely needed hand, hence the encouraging results. The Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) arrived on our shores in late July 2003 to the warm welcome of the Islanders, contradictory to their expectation of arriving to a hostile environment of a war zone. They had done a great work since they arrived and apart from that, most of them especially the younger officers had been having the time of their life enjoying the beauty, the company of friendly people, and just about every thing the islands have to offer our tourists. Divers have dominated the visitor arrivals to the Solomon Islands and them after taking those trips to the underwater world of the Islands they do sample the abundance of terrestrial beauties and wanders of Volcanic and coral islands. Cruise Vessels have increased its arrivals since 2005, visiting the remote parts of the Solomons; Tikopia and the Shortland Islands. There is always plenty to see from the World War Two wreakages to visiting the local villiages showing their unqiue handicafts, dances and their daily way of living. Other sector tourists are trickling in to be met by the joys of our generic tourism operators with the genuine hospitality they never really expected. There are still more that Solomon Islands have to offer and we will try to let you know. An open invitation is always there. There are places for you as our tourist in the Solomon Islands and there is always somebody waiting to take care of you. Lukim You!
