Visas & Passports

Everyone visiting the Solomons needs a valid passport but not everyone needs a visa. Most tourists are granted a visitors permit on arrival. You do not need a visa to enter the Solomon Islands if you are a Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the United States, or a citizen from most European countries.

Instead you can apply for a visitors permit on arrival for a stay of up to 90 days. Extensions of an additional 3 months may be granted under special circumstances.

In order to be approved for a visitors permit you must:

  • Hold a valid passport. It must be issued by the proper passport authority of the country to which you are a citizen or national , valid for 6 months beyond your departure date and have sufficient blank space to accommodate the necessary stamps,
  • Have either a return or an onward ticket,
  • Be able to show evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself while in the Solomons, and
  • Have a valid visa to enter other countries from the Solomon Islands, if required.

As long as you can meet these requirements you'll be granted a permit on arrival.

However, there is a list of countries whose citizens do require prior approval on the Solomon Islands Government Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration website.

Citizens from these countries must apply for a visa before travelling to the islands.
